Dr. Fukuta specializes in drug delivery system (DDS) and his research focuses on brain delivery, tumor targeting, liposomes, and biomimetic DDS. For example, he discovered that liposome accumulates in the region of cerebral ischemia/reperfusion (I/R). He developed leukocyte-mimetic liposomes that pass through the inflamed endothelial cell layer or penetrate tumor spheroids. Recently, he is working on the preparation of nanoparticles with cell membranes and extracellular vesicles.
